Tesco Law north of the border?

It is a long time since a week went by without me reading an article or blog post on the impact on the English legal profession of "Tesco law" (otherwise known as the implementation of the Legal Services Act 2007).

New on my radar this week though is the debate which is happening in Scotland (where the LSA is still only in draft form) and where the Scottish Law Agents Society is attempting to force a referendum to stop it being implemented.

Amid allegations of undemocratic behaviour the Special General Meeting of the Law Society of Scotland appears to have been adjourned today to allow for further debate on the future of the bill.

In view of the doom and gloom which generally accompanies discussions on Tesco Law in England I was especially interested to see the Herald suggesting today that blocking Tesco Law could cost Scotland £500 million!

I'm not sure what the end result of all of this will be, but maybe there are a few solicitors in England wishing that they had done the same?

Would any Scottish readers care to comment on whether they see Tesco Law as an opportunity or a threat?
