Standing Room Only?
Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 4:38PM A disturbing article from Mashable landed in my RSS reader earlier this week.
It was called Just how dangerous is sitting all day? and, worryingly for us lawyers who do exactly that, the answer seems to be very!
The accompanying infographic is awesome, but it has some pretty nasty statistics such as:-
"Sitting increases risk of death by 40%!"
Now as a pedant I would respond that the risk of death is (unfortunately) 100% and can't be increased (and it may well be that there is some bad science involved here), but it does seem likely that sitting down for 8 hours a day (and the rest) may not be the best idea.
The answer (as anyone who follows the tech blogging community will know) is the Standing Desk or, for the uber-nerd the electrically adjustable GeekDesk.
So my question is... have any lawyers taken the plunge and moved to a standing desk? And if so, what was the reaction from partners and staff?!
Is there a cutting edge Twlawyer who is prepared to put their hand up to Geek Desk ownership?
More seriously, if the science behind this does stack up then should we really be seeing batteries of lawyers (and other sedentary workers) perched at their standing desks rather than slouching themselves to an early grave?!
